Do you want a quick ‘yes, no, or maybe’ answer to your advice questions? I’m very excited that Tarot.com is featuring the classic Yes/No Advice Oracle in a much beefed-up version created by me. You will find it featured here for Valentine’s Day. It now has commentaries based on the number of cards you receive in several groupings plus for each Ace and the Major Arcana. It’s designed to provide succinct and to the point advice and direction. Be aware this is a commercial site.
If you try it, let me know what you think, including editorial comments. Some of my text has been changed (understandably to fit their clientele), so I’d like to know what works and what doesn’t work for you.
UPDATE 5/23/2011: There is now a Yes/No Tarot app for the iPad. Unfortunately, they eliminated most of the interpretation data and simplified it down to practically nothing. Still, the opening art sequence is one of the best I’ve seen.

Hi Mary,
I tried it, and I LOVE it! Love the graphics, love the format and design.
How very creative and it seemed accurate to me.
I don’t like having to purchase Karma Coins though.
Thanks for sharing this. It’s nice just to get a straight, to the point answer.
Congrats…Good Job!
Blessings ~

Kaira –
I’m so glad you liked it. I’ve now made the post clear that this is a commercial site. Sorry I didn’t do that before you went. I’m trying to arrange for a discount for my blog readers but Tarot.com currently doesn’t have a way to handle that. I’ll let everyone know if something is ever worked out but it could be a while (if ever).

Hi Mary! I went as far as being offered 20 Karma Coins, and when I have a little more time I will go the rest of the way. I enjoyed the process and the colorful graphics are great. I am looking forward to this, and I am pleased to see you doing it. Great idea, and I think it will be nice for you and the querents to interact in cyberspace via your intention. This way, each time I use it I know who I am benefiting, and I much prefer that to just supporting commercialism in general, when I have my own cards. Sometimes it is just more fun to use an automated program. I usually print the question I asked and the results, and refer back to them later. Let us know how this develops for you!

Tarot.com has a really great feature – a journal of all the readings you do with them. You can also add your own comments (see the Notes feature when you get a reading or when you use the journal). Once you get around 8 or 10 readings it will also chart the frequency of repetition among all the cards you’ve received. It’s really interesting to look back over readings you forgot you did. With the journal in mind, it’s worthwhile making your question very specific so you’ll remember what you were asking about.

I noticed that! I was thinking what a carefully thought-out, useful engagement set they offer us. It will be fun to see what happens. I do write very succinct questions when I use automated programs for later review. I think Tarot.com is going to be a nice subset of my Tarot work, giving me a little private closet of data which I do not have to develop through my own brainwork and intuition. Sometimes it is nice to NOT be the one doing the thinking, just pleasant to be on the receiving end. The idea of repeating cards over a set of readings is cool too, since I am sure that we do notice these things when reading for ourselves over time. Having it presented in a dataset would be very handy. Memory alone can be sometimes be convenient rather than accurate, if you know what I mean.

Hi everyone!
I did this spread with my Rider Waite deck but also tried the automated one at Tarot.com.
I do like this spread but hopefully I won’t use it too often.
I love the DO do/DON’T do spread the most but sometimes I definitely appreciate a straight forward answer!

I guess its not your fault, but Tarot Com should have told me the yes no reading was $3.95 in the first place, instead of leading me on for ten minutes and only telling me it cost money at the very end. Therefore, I won’t take the reading on princible.

I tried it twice and was impressed.
Both suggestions were consistent with my intuitive thoughts although I was ambivalent about these.

The reading is well put together visually, and I think the write-ups and the explanations are great. I’m not happy with the outcome of my reading (although I do agree with it), and the way that spread outcome was explained really opened my eyes to the reason why I got the answer I did.
Great job, Mary.

I was dubious about online yes/no readings, but Mary’s answers are not vague and offer very good advice. On the other hand, there is my feeling that holding the cards and shuffling them, along with communication between reader and querent, including physical posture, facial expressions, verbal responses, and subconscious interplay, all play important roles in Tarot readings. Another concern regarding Tarot.com is the privacy of my personal information. I was hesitant to give my email address and credit card information, but Tarot.com assures us that our information is safe and never shared with anyone. I am relying on Mary’s association with Tarot.com as a sign that it is legitimate. There is a lot of hokey baloney on Tarot.com (mainly the advertisements and links to questionable psychics on Keen), but I am looking forward to studying Tarot and Astrology on the website. It’s another good way to learn. Thank you, Mary.

Hi Mary
I have a query regarding a tarot deck featured in the Footer Image at the top of your website. In the lower row of card images, I am struck by the image of the Star (second from right) and the Emperor (fifth from right), presumably from the same deck. Would you happen to know which tarot deck those cards are from? I can’t wait to get my hands on a set!
Thank you very much for your time and attention

Hwee – Both the Star and Emperor cards are from the Aura-Soma Tarot of Pamela Matthews. She’s from New Zealand and the cards aren’t easy to get here in the U.S. The whole deck is magnificient. Be aware that there is another Aura-Soma Tarot deck that is not nearly so nice – so make sure you get the Pamela Matthews one. I suggest a google search to see if you can find anyone near you that sells them.

I love it, Mary! (Don’t like the answer to my first question, but that’s not your fault. LOL) I also like the free little astrology report they give. This may have been asked already, but what is the deck they use for the reading?

Kel – Your reading should include the name of the deck. They change the default deck weekly, I believe. You can also change which deck to use at several points in the reading process (there’s a pull down menu with all the decks listed).
Feel free to let me know if the advice from these readings is accurate or not!

My reading doesn’t include the name of the deck, unfortunately; I just double-checked.

Hi. I just did a Yes/No reading at tarot.com and the answer was exactly what I expected (Maybe Yes). I could have done it myself but was glad I used the site as it gave me insight on the other cards drawn that I would not have got on my own.
There was a drop-down list with decks at the beginning of the reading (just after asking the question). The default was the New Century deck, I changed it to the Vanessa deck which is fun and often gives me very literal images (e.g. I got 10 of Wands and my question was about studies). You can browse a lot of decks on the site including the New Century one which is a very cool feature of the site.
As a reading format, I think I will use it often as it gives a lot more specific and detailed guidance/advice about an issue than the Celtic Cross format. Thanks Mary!

I’m glad you like the spread. It’s perfect for the computer format and for getting a quick answer with some guidance and detail, but not so much as to overwhelm you. One of the good things about tarot.com is that there is a journal where all your spreads are recorded and you can add comments. If you are going to use the site a lot then I recommend that you use this feature.

Midas – In the post I say “Be aware this is a commercial site.” There are some short free readings available at tarot.com but not the Yes/No Oracle.

Hi Mary: I love what you did. I used all the karma coins in my account, something I hadn’t done before! I asked whether I should go to Robert Place event tonight. The answer was yes.
I like the graphics. A lot of hoopla but also fun. Blessings, Lorrie

Yes, I completely accepted the fact that – spending 20 years with one person, would not change the life quality I’ve experienced. (( On with your Spread Positions… The Answer was in the YES SPREAD, Wheel of fortune and Page of cups —Yes, Maybe featured 7 of wands & The Hermit.)) A wise and prudent choice, patience… bodes well with dilligent searches and quests as well as completing things… (( There were three court cards & a balance of all of the elements.))

Jack – I don’t understand your question. You can do this spread yourself by following the directions here: https://marygreer.wordpress.com/2008/06/02/yes-no-advice-oracle/

Jack – Let that be a lesson to you. If the cards could work to predict games, races or lottery numbers then all tarot readers would be very rich indeed. Part of the task is learning what kind of questions tarot answers best. What I’ve found is that: “Tarot helps you meet whatever comes in the best possible way,” as it says at the top of my blog.
I really appreciate your reporting on your experiment (hope you didn’t lose any money on the game!). In my classes I have my students try out similar things until each person finds what actually works for him or her.

Sorry, but I wasn’t impressed with this AT ALL. I received a ‘Yes, Maybe’ response and it didn’t fit my question. In addition, I wasn’t able to explore the messages of the other cards in the spread (that would, perhaps, grant me insight into the ‘Yes, Maybe’ answer). I know of a much more effective Yes or No Tarot spread method that can be found on youtube.com: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyT1yF0uFHU

Amanda –
If one of the four basic responses would not have fit your question in the first place, then it is possible that the question wasn’t appropriate to the spread. Did you check to see if your question was worded like the examples?
There are lots of Yes/No Tarot spreads. I’m familiar with the spread that you linked to as it has been around for a long time (excellent video, BTW—thanks for the link). The video example did not explore the messages of all the other cards, although the person said it was an option. You can certainly examine each of the cards in the spread at tarot.com, but that’s not how this particular spread was designed. It originated as a ‘gypsy spread’ and is different from the usual tarot reading process because it focuses on only a few details in order to get as concise and to-the-point answer as possible.

You need to log in just to get the answer… If only you can get a quick response just like the one at eztarot.com then maybe you’ll feel more convenient… I know the app is so simple one card but you can choose other spreads for you to get what you want…
