The latest episode of “True Blood” on HBO has a tarot reading at Merlotte’s Bar by Lafayette (yes he’s gorgeous) for Tara. (Season 2, Episode 8: “Timebomb.”)
For those who are not fans – this is a vampire series based on the supernatural mystery novels (Southern Vampire series) of Charlaine Harris that I’ve been following since they began. It’s a great series for those who are into the genre. The TV production is shockingly full of sex and violence, easily glossed over when reading Harris’ humorous writing style, but the show and books are as addicting as vampire blood is rumored to be.
Check out the TV & Movie Watch List for more tarot appearances in the media.

I was shocked to see LaFayette’s silvered nails turning the cards, but not surprised; he has many unexplored facets. It looked to be one of those Trumps-only readings so often seen in films, but effective nonetheless. Thank you for mentioning Alan Ball’s excellent version of the Southern Vampire series (which I haven’t started reading yet)–it’s truly an excellent series!

I just added this new picture showing Lafayette reading the cards. He’s right – he really is gorgeous! I can only make out the 5 of Wands, Nine of Swords and Ten of Cups.

Mary,
I’ve been trying to figure out which RWS deck Lafeyette is using. I don’t recognize these card backs and I can’t find anything online. Do you have any idea?
Yes, Lafayette IS gorgeous! I love this show.

Val –
You are talking about the red backs. They are unusual. I’ve looked at most of my RWS-style decks and there is only one which is close, but not an exact match. It’s a Chinese import sold by Encore Sales. However, the front of the cards looks like a standard Rider-licensed pack. It’s not pictured among the backs shown on Holly Voley’s tarot page:

Anyone know more?

Thanks, Mary!
Yes, I was referring to the red backs. Holly Voley’s site was the first place I checked, thought for sure I’d find it there. I could have sworn I had come across another website that showed several RWS backs and bookmarked it, but it’s nowhere to found, now. Maybe I just dreamed it…
