Marcus Katz and Tali Goodwin are today delighted to announce that Abiding in the Sanctuary: The Waite-Trinick Tarot, a Christian Mystical Tarot (1917 – 1923) is published and available here.
They write:
The book is hardback, with dustcover, 186pp in colour, 8”x10”. It is published in a limited edition of 250 copies. There is a preview on the site.
We are honoured to have a preface in the book by Mary K. Greer, who kindly supplied an introduction to Waite’s lifetime work and also discovered a “prophecy” that Waite had made about the revelation of hidden symbols after a century! Whilst not wishing to make too much of that, it is somewhat uncanny, and accords with some of the visionary experiences that came with the production of the work, which we tell in our own introductions.
The book also includes a double-page spread of the Tree of Life and Waite’s hidden system of correspondences, correspondence tables and a commentary against each image. With over 80 full page colour and b&w images, original biographical research and photographs and even rare Frieda Harris images of Masonic Tracing Boards, we trust this book will be a treasure for a long time to come. We gained permissions to use stained glass images, archive photographs and much more which we include in the book – at the last minute discovering and gaining permission to use a photograph of the Lanston Monotype Company shop floor, around the time of this story, where we suspect the plates were created for the b&w images of the Great Symbols. Whilst research is always incomplete, this book represents everything we know to date on the Great Symbols and it is a joy to share.
If you are seriously interested you should order a copy right away as they expect to sell out within the month.

I know many people will want see this book which is quite likely to become impossible to purchase or obtain before many tarotists hear of its existence. As Marcus Katz explained on Facebook, the license received to publish the images was limited to 250 copies.
It may be possible, I hope in due time, that a second edition can be contracted for to reach a larger audience.
I suggest a challenge to the few of us who do obtain a copy of this edition. That we read it and discuss its contents in our various public forums, so that tarotists can assimilate this important corner of tarot history. For instance I anticipate that these Major Trumps suggest an elaborate development of esoteric Christian initiation as Waite envisioned it and expanding, interpreting, and questioning aspects of its history and symbolism. Another possible angle to discuss is the relationship of stained glass window artisans and tarot imagery.
So I await receiving a copy in a couple of weeks.

For folks who cannot afford this work. One can see rough reproductions of some of the key tarot images available online at the British Museum. These lack commentary and the colors are not”true” but its better than nothing. and to view them is free and the imperfect images canbe downloaded for personal study, but not for reproduction.

Hello,
Good to see this now in print. I first saw these images at the GDS in 1998. They were presented in a lecture, the original images of J. B. Trinick, projected from glass slides. At the time I made sketches of each card.
My thanks to all who have made this book possible and available.

Waite-Trinick Tarot Classes
This series of five classes meets Tuesday evenings 7-9 PM Eastern time (-5 GMT) January 3-31, 2012 as a teleconference. Each class will offer discussions of the Waite-Trinick Tarot as published by Tali Goodwin and Marcus Katz in Abiding in the Sanctuary: The Waite-Trinick Tarot, A Christian Mystical Tarot (1917-1923). Because of copyright restrictions the images will not be reproduced on this website though related images will be offered when relevant.
The classes will be chock full of references and suggested readings. Participates will be asked to research images and certain questions and provide a written summary of their results to be published as part of the class notes. These assignments are voluntary but will contribute greatly to the depth and breath of the themes we will be able to introduce.

Most books only contain a brief explanation on each card and some spreads, so congratulations for writing a book that really gets into the subject.

A.E. Waite’s Little Known Second Tarot Deck | Frederick Woodruff * Astrology * Gurdjieff * Fourth Way * Vashon Astrologer
[…] posted a detailed entry on the Waite Trinick deck several years ago. Shortly thereafter there was a limited run of 200 copies of the deck released to the public. And that’s the last I’ve heard about […]

I have been looking for a fourth way of viewing the Major Arcana Tarot Cards beyond the Archetypal, Existential and Cosmic and I knew it would be extremely superlative if it existed, which would be an upgrade from what Arthur Edward Waite did with the Rider-Waite Major Arcana Tarot Cards.
I went on line and found the images that are displayed in the British Museum and downloaded the 44-images, which are really only sixteen (16) of the Major Arcana Tarot Cards. These cards do reveal some secrets not revealed in Waite’s previous deck. I then of course had to order the book online, which is in the UK so I will have to wait a week or so.
This second deck of Arthur Edward Waite was never meant to be published as a deck as other cards had been; because, this new version uses a number of images in regards to the same Major Arcana Tarot Card to reveal spiritual nuances that most people would not envisage or reason out contemplatively.
