I have a webinar coming up this Thursday. Please join me. It’s for everyone who wonders what learning about Tarot history can do to improve their readings. I’ll be illustrating the changing perceptions of the Lovers card from ancient Greece to modern Wicca; it is far more complex than you might have thought. Journey with me in living color through pictures depicting the origins of cards and cartomancy and learn how to add depth to your readings.

Your beautiful photo of the Lovers trump at the Tarot Garden in Tuscany, Italy, is surely one of the many delights of this Tarot-in-reality art park by Niki de Saint Phalle — a brilliant masterpiece that deserves more recognition. Her Garden represents an independent magickal female’s journey to establish the Major Arcana in a larger-than-life experience that all can visit, enter into, worship, smile at, and marvel moment by moment as one visits in sequence or out of sequence the 22 Major Arcana. The Lovers is off to the side, one of the smaller sculptures compared to the Empress which is an entire universe (Niki lived in it while she was creating this vast Garden of Tarot) of this artist’s ingenuity and inordinate strength of creativity.

Ava –
Thank you for explaining all this. I was in such a hurry to get the webinar information up that I overlooked mentioning anything about where this image came from. I took it on last year’s Tarot Tour of Italy with Arnell Ando.
