Elfie
Hello,
I usually use the Love Tarot or Crowley, but I think I will buy me a Lenormand Tarot. I read and learn some much about it in the last few days. I am getting interested in Lenormand.
Thanks
Elfie

Elfie – Lenormand are not Tarot cards. There’s only 36 of them and you use very different techniques for reading them. This is not to discourage you. The decks are relatively inexpensive (often under $10) but require dedicated study to get the most out of their unique way of being read.

Mary, I would like to appreciate your blo. It is very informative and the frst time I read your blog was also the first time I got aware of and saw the Lenormand deck. I am drawn to the cards and have ordered the book by Sylvie Steinbach. Could you please guide or provide some more information on the difference between Le Petit Lenormand and Mlle Lenormand Cartomancy deck (both are on Amazon however the former is quite a bit more expensive). Also would you be able to provide guidance on which book can provide the best insights & learning on Le Petit Lenormand. I have not been able to find these decks in any online store in India and would like to have compleet information before deciding where/how to purcahse. Thank you.

Vandana –
You didn’t provide links to the specific decks you are talking about, but there is a French “Le Petit Lenormand,” which are small sized versions of Le Grand Lenormand that shows mythological figures, flowers, constellations and more on the cards. I don’t believe that is what you are looking for. Then there is the Petit Lenormand that consists of 36 cards about which Sylvie Steinbach’s book is written. You can find a variety of these decks here: http://www.bookdepository.com/search?searchTerm=Lenormand&search=Find+book
I generally recommend the Konigs Furt Lenormand Orakelspielkarten, but the Blue Owl sold there (with playing card inserts rather than verses) is also quite good, as is the Piatnek deck. Sylvie’s book is okay but it doesn’t teach the classic Grand Tableau layout nor how to generate your own card combinations; it has limitations.
Right now the best opportunity for learning is online through the ‘Lenormand Cards Study Group’ on Facebook or another forum (there are many).
This year at least five new books are expected out in English, so there will soon be plenty of resources. If you read German, Dutch or French you have a choice of at least 50 books already written.
Blessings, Mary __________ Mary K. Greer https://marygreer.wordpress.com/

Hello Mary
Thank you for your response. Yes, I should have provided the links. Here are the links I have viewed and my specific questions. Your response would be very helpful in discerning and selecting the right deck(s) as well as how to studly and learn Lenormand.
1) http://www.lepalaisdutarot.com/ – this is Petit Lenormand Grimaud
a) Is this the one taught in Sylvie’s book?
b) When you say small sized version of Le Grand Lenormand, what does that mean – the no of cards (36 vs 54?) or is there any other difference?
c) What do the pictures/details represent and tell? Could you describe from any one card please.
d) Would it also be correct to say that the difference between this and the Grand Lenormand is in the constellations and the number of cards? What other differences are there between the two?
2) http://www.lepalaisdutarot.com/ – this is Le Petit Lenormand de Piatnik – it is different from from the one above, Petit Lenormand Grimaund – lesser details…
a) Is this more in practice?
b) When should/could this one be used comapred to Le Petit Lenormand?
3) http://www.lepalaisdutarot.com/ – The grand Lenormand (54 cards) – this is intriguing. My questions is as I have asked in 1c)…regarding differnece between this one and Petit Lenormand.
I notice in your blog you have shown pictures of the Gtrand Lenormand.
a) From where can I learn (In English; I do not know French or German or Dutch) how to read this deck… The Grand Tableau layout…and how to generate my own card combinations?
4) I will certainly join the Facebook Group on Lenormand. You mention there are many other forums. Would you please share links to the other forums from where one can learn.
I do look forward the 5 new books in English you have refred to and would appreciate any advance information you could share.
Once again, my heart felt thanks for all your help and guidance.
Regards
Vandana

Here is another one I saw on Aamzon that adds to the confusion of how many Lenormand decks exist …it looks like the blue wol deck, however there are no card images of the blue owl on the link you sent me that show whether the cards are on English or whether it has playing card inserts rather than verses
